Organizations

I am vice president external of the Vietnamese Student Association, a non-profit organization on campus that exists to preserve the pride and nationalism of Vietnamese culture. Our goal is to strengthen the relationship between members and the community by actively participating in community service, social, and cultural events.
We tutor at Summit Elementary in Austin and hold multiple charity events such as Benefit Dinner and Date Auction. VSA holds cultural workshops and Cultural Showcase that integrates cultural traditions, foods, dances, and language. Social events invite all members to participate in sports, potlucks, karaoke, paintball, etc. to make the most of their college experience. For example, Family Field Day gathers all VSA members to compete in an array of leadership building activities and obstacle courses during the day, followed by cliff diving and camping at night.

My position as vice president external includes integrating our fellow VSA organizations in Texas and Oklahoma universities. We strive to build a sense of community by actively participating and communicating with other schools.

I am also a member of the Filipino Students Association, an organization that preserves Filipino culture and builds camaraderie through the involvement of dance, sports and community service.

Our organization takes part in many volunteer events such as Marathon Kids and Project 2013 to give back to the community. In addition, we encourage friendly competition by actively participating in the UT Intramural Sports Program.

One of our main events is Goodphil: a three-day competition held every March between Filipino Student Associations of 12 colleges and universities in Texas. The competition consists of four parts: cultural dance, modern dance, level of spirit and sports. Hours of intense practice and coordination are spent preparing for this competition as schools take this opportunity to showcase their talents.

I was an active member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a premed honor society and service organization. Our goals include stimulating appreciation of the importance of pre-health education, promoting communication between medical and pre-health students, and using our resources to benefit health organizations, charities, and the community. We participate in many volunteer events such as Project 2013, Livestrong Austin Marathon, Marathon Kids, etc.

I was part of the Social Committee in the Natural Sciences Council, a student organization that represents students in the College of Natural Sciences regarding academic affairs and promote greater student interaction. NSC serves as a forum for communication between students and the administration, faculty, and staff of the College of Natural Sciences. The Council offers committee and leadership experience to its members by hosting a variety of extracurricular activities throughout the year including Natural Sciences Week, town hall meetings, a kickball tournament and several student/faculty events.
